I'm surprised that the sectors threatened by abuse of AI did not include:
- Infrastructure (one did mention public transport, but I'm thinking electricity generation & distribution networks, telecoms networks etc.)
- Armed forces & Intelligence services: using AI-orchestrated bots for massive brute force hacking/cracking. The force of quantum computing before quantum computing is generally available.
- Socio-Political: potential for massive increase in disinformation via social media (e.g. auto A/B testing to fine-tune messages for maximal engagement/re-sharing).
Great points and fully agree. I think we also need to change our mindsets from the realisation that AI can replace jobs, to AI can provide (criminal) operations with an army of 'digital employees'. More than they ever had.
When you have a spare 45 mins, I'd encourage you to watch an interview of Michal Pechoucek, CTO of Gen. He talks about risk of criminal use of generative AI to attack consumers and therefore essential to educate individuals of the need to be more vigilant / skeptical about all comms, be more resilient and make good privacy decisions. And the move of criminals from short-term attacks (phishing/scamming), to longer & more persistent manipulation & disinformation campaigns. https://www.cxotalk.com/episode/ai-cybersecurity-cto-perspective
Interesting prompts & answers, Pascal.
